The Story of My October Part 1

October started pretty decently. I had plans to participate in 24 Hour Comics Day and get an early start on Novel Writing Month. It started at well, pretty quiet. I got thru my 24 hour comic with little to no problems.

Then my wife made a routine eye appointment.

Where she found out she has cataracts. Now anyone who knows anything about cataracts will know that 29 years old simply do not get them. The optometrist asked her if she was a diabetic, as diabetics are the only cases he's ever seen with cataracts under 50. So she went and picked up a testing kit.

And found out her blood sugar was 4 and a half times where it should be. She immediately got a prescription for a new diabetes drug and away we went, as she worked on getting her blood sugar under control before she could get her cataract surgery.

I found myself focused even more on my daughter as my wife kept various appointments all around town. We saw our Flexible spending account disappear in a flash. But she got her count down to where it should be and had her first cataract sugery this last Tuesday.

So all is relatively good.

Hopefully it will stay that way.

I'm Still Alive!

Just a quick post to let anyone who might be reading this that I’m still alive and kicking. Computer problems still continue to derail my efforts to maintain this blog as frequently as I want, but hopefully, in the near future I will find a way to work towards resolving that issue.

Much to report over the last few weeks, and I'll try my best to get to that in the next few days.

Firedrake #13

One of my favorite stories to read each month, T. Mike McCurley's Firedrake is back today. Please check it out.

Computer Issues

I have about had it with the old piece of junk we call a computer in our house. Once again I am having issues with monitores, logging on, and various other glitchy carp taht neither my ad blocker nor virus protection can find a reason for.

So my wife and I are looking in to finding a new computer.

Goodbye, Pentium II, goodbye, and hopefully soon.

I only like using library computers so much...

Final Chapter of The Farmer up later today

It does my heart proud to see The Farmer come to its conclusion at Metahuman Press. It will be the first story we’ve produced from start to finish, and quite frankly, it has been one of my favorite. All the characters have been fully realized humans, and that is rare in this day and age of the corporate superhero and the unending status quo.

So, enjoy The Farmer from beginning to end at Metahuman Press, including the final chapter when it goes up later today. It was well worth the wait.

Back in Black

I took a couple days off time from my friend the internet, and from doing much of anything for that matter, for the last couple days. The break did me well, as it allowed me to both refocus my energies as I head in to my plans to participate in Novel Writing Month in October. I’ve been brainstorming a story idea for most of the 48 hours away, and I think the concept should work well in maintaining my interest as I push out ten pages or more a day. As it stands right now, it has everythng I love: spaceships, swords, alien hordes, robots, religious imagery, and most improtantly, cool characters. More will come on the 30th, when I get started.

Yeah, I'm actually starting novel writing month a day early as I will also be trying my hand at 24 hr comics day on the 7th of October. I can't really draw so it should make the experiment fun, but we'll see what I can turn out.

Not much to report in life. Lots of “work” at my job, where I am getting quite far in Final Fantasy IV Advance. I am heading in to another long, boring weekend there so wih me luck.

I have a kid to pick up from the bus stop, so later everyone.

Amen, Frank

I've never seen the meaning of patriotism and the flag summed up so succinctly.

Frank Miller on patriotism.

The New Front Page

If you have yet to notice, Metahuman Press has been going through some overhauls. First and foremost, we have a new far more convenient front page that should make life that much prettier. Let me know what you think and such.

The New Blog

The old blog had its share of issues (especially with archiving) so Metahuman Press proudly brings you the new and improved blog of myself: Nicholas James Ahlhelm the First! Over the next few weeks I will start updating this blog as I bring you site news, random reviews, thoughts on what’s going on in life, the universe, and everything, and otherwise waster your time and mine in the blogosphere.

In the mean time, click on the links to my various writings, or click on those handy ads to the left and give Metahuman Press a few more pennies to keep itself going!
